Trentham Monkey Forest Achieves Prestigious BIAZA Accredited Status
14th Jul 2026
We're proud to announce that Trentham Monkey Forest has been awarded BIAZA Accredited status by the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA).
This accreditation recognises our commitment to delivering high standards in animal welfare, conservation, education and research, placing us among the organisations that have successfully completed BIAZA's comprehensive accreditation process.
What does BIAZA Accreditation mean?
BIAZA's accreditation programme is a world-class certification scheme that assesses zoos and aquariums against the association's rigorous policies. The process goes beyond standard zoo licensing and includes detailed evidence submissions, comprehensive questionnaires and an on-site screening carried out by trained industry experts.
Achieving accreditation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to ethical practices, continuous improvement and delivering the highest standards of care for our animals.
A Recognition of Our Team's Dedication
This achievement is a reflection of the incredible dedication and expertise of our animal care, education, conservation, maintenance and visitor services teams. Every member of staff plays an important role in ensuring our Barbary macaques receive exceptional care while helping visitors develop a greater understanding of this endangered species.
Since opening in 2005, Trentham Monkey Forest has been committed to providing a natural woodland environment where our free-roaming Barbary macaques can thrive. Alongside providing outstanding welfare, we actively support conservation initiatives that help protect wild Barbary macaque populations and inspire thousands of visitors each year to care about wildlife. The monkeys here in Staffordshire live as close to their wild counterparts as possible as they thrive in the ancient forest all-year-round.
Looking to the Future
Receiving BIAZA Accredited status is an important milestone, but it also reinforces our commitment to continually improving everything we do. We remain dedicated to advancing animal welfare, supporting conservation projects, delivering engaging education programmes and contributing to research that benefits Barbary macaques and wildlife conservation more widely.
We'd like to thank our fantastic team, our visitors and everyone who supports Trentham Monkey Forest. Your support helps us continue our mission to protect one of the world's most endangered primates while providing an unforgettable wildlife experience.
We look forward to building on this achievement and continuing to make a positive impact for wildlife for many years to come.
